JBC supports establishment of North South Consultative Forum
The IBEC-CBI Joint Business Council (JBC) supports the establishment of the North South Consultative Forum.
The JBC believes that the NSCF has an important role to play in addressing common issues of interest and concern north and south.
The JBC supports the application of a social partnership approach to the NSCF. Social partnership has been very successful in the Republic of Ireland in terms of involving employers, trade unions, government and non-governmental organisations in addressing economic and social issues and in identifying appropriate policy solutions that can be implemented effectively. The JBC sees the NSCF as a useful platform for exchange and feedback on cross border issues and will allow ideas to be implemented based on shared learnings. There is a significant amount of activity currently taking place across a wide-range of policy areas and business has been very active in developing cross border trade and addressing obstacles.
JBC participated at the North South Consultative Forum (NSCF) Conference and Paula O’Dwyer addressed the meeting on behalf of the JBC. The event was hosted by the Taoiseach and Mr Cowen also addressed the gathering.
A copy of the conference report is available here.
